The Police seized more than half a kilo of cocaine yesterday, while a 23-year-old woman was arrested to facilitate the investigation. The amount of cocaine is expected to increase, since other packages appear to have been found on the 23-year-old's body.
The quantity of cocaine was detected within the framework of actions carried out in collaboration between the Police and the Customs Department, to identify drugs imported into Cyprus through airports.
Following an assessment of information, according to which a woman who was arriving in Cyprus from abroad was hiding a quantity of drugs on her body, yesterday afternoon, at the arrivals area of Larnaca airport, the 23-year-old was stopped for a check. Inside her bra, nine egg-shaped nylon packages containing cocaine, with a total gross weight of 88 grams, were located and confiscated. Also inside her underwear, a package containing cocaine, with a gross weight of 452 grams, was located.
The 23-year-old was arrested for the flagrant offenses. She was subsequently taken to the Hospital, where she underwent an X-ray examination, through which a number of drugs were identified in her body. Therefore, the arrested woman was detained in the Hospital, where she was given appropriate medication, with the aim of eliminating the drugs.
