Stricter control procedures are established by the Police and the Mining Service in relation to fireworks since the illegal ones that are heard every night are more than the legal ones.
In Nicosia, for example, no permit has been issued during this period, however, almost every night explosions of fireworks are heard in various areas.
Citizens complain to the Police that they have not been informed in advance about the explosions, that the fireworks explode at late hours and that, until they are informed that they are controlled explosions, they are terrorized.
With a circular of the Assistant Chief of Operations, Dimitris Dimitriou, to the Police Directors, all police officers are called to check where fireworks are allowed to be thrown, so that the illegals can be brought to justice.
The Mining Service has posted on its website the places where fireworks will be thrown, at the hours and days, so wherever fireworks are heard, the police should know that they are illegal.
The police are worried about where the illegal fireworks are located, since their import requires a special permit, however, it seems that some people transport them illegally from the occupied areas or import them from abroad without declaring them.
Most permits issued by the competent service concern wedding receptions in hotels, other events, openings and even children's parties. Every year, the competent service issues about 550 licenses for the use of fireworks, for cultural, charitable, municipal, community events, festivals, public music concerts, for tourist and commercial purposes, etc.
The latest fashion is the use of fireworks on boats or platforms outside Limassol.
At a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture the day before yesterday, it was decided to set up a Technical Committee by representatives of the Mining Service and the Police, which within a month will propose to the ministers specific improvements in the legal framework in terms of responsibilities, licensing and prevention. illegalities.
The committee will propose relevant amendments to the legislation, in order to set more dissuasive penalties, to redefine the events to be licensed, but also amendments that will allow for a more effective involvement of all those involved in licensing and control of possession, marketing and use of fireworks.
