The Authorities of the Republic are on alert in the last days of the continuous arrival of immigrants in Cyprus.

Today, Monday (07/09), an extraordinary meeting of the Interministerial Committee is expected to take place, convened by the Minister of Interior, Nikos Nouris, to examine the issue and to study the next moves.

Speaking yesterday at the "Incisions in Events", the Minister said that in the last 24 hours there has been a sharp increase in migration flows from Lebanon.

"It is a rapid increase that we were not used to in the past," he said, adding that the Cypriot government's response was immediate.

He stressed that in consultation with the Lebanese authorities, they agreed on a specific management of the ships that arrived from Lebanon.

The Minister of Interior praised the action of the port police, while adding that a number of police officers are in Beirut and are preparing to return to Cyprus.

He pointed out that there are arrivals in Mammari and specifically Syrians coming from Turkey.

He also stressed that the "Pournara" Hospitality Center is overcrowded, stating characteristically, "we can not allow additional immigrants to enter the Republic because we have an objective problem in their reception.
