Audit Report: The Government will study the findings and take a position

The Government, after studying the Auditor General's findings, will make a decision, Government Spokesman Marios Pelekanos said today.

In his statements to journalists, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, at the presidential residence, in Troodos, Mr. Pelecanous said that "the Auditor General's report was made public today.

The Government, after studying with due diligence the findings of the Auditor General in connection with the detailed report of the Nicolatos Committee appointed by the Attorney General, always taking into account the opinions of the Attorney General, will make the necessary comments as soon as possible".

Besides, to a question, he said that "with regard to the issue of surveillance, which is an issue that arises outside of Cyprus, I will repeat that there is no involvement of Cyprus in this particular case. As we have repeatedly stated, the Commander of the KYP informs the political leaders regarding the actions of the Intelligence Service which focus exclusively on matters related to national security, the fight against terrorism and organized crime".

When asked if there are surveillance machines or software in Cyprus, Mr. Pelekanos said that "there is a specific legal framework that is constantly being upgraded. This last upgrade was in 2020 in collaboration with the Parliament. Therefore, anything that falls within the legal framework cannot be subject to investigation as long as it is within the specific legislation."
