The President of the School Boards, Dinos Hellinas, spoke on Radio Proto about the fires set by students outside high schools in Limassol and youth delinquency in general.
As he mentioned, installing closed circuits in schools is not the only solution.
The whole effort, he emphasized, is to guide the children so that they do not cause these incidents and to expand the guarding of the school premises.
He said, especially in the high-risk schools that are around 50-70, guards should be placed from the time they close until the next morning, noting that the cost will amount to two million a year.
Installing closed circuit surveillance will cost the same, however, the effect will not be the same, he added, as many have been observed wearing hoods or cutting camera wires and acting unbothered.
The ideal scenario, he emphasized, would be to install cameras and also have security guards in schools.
"The situation has gotten out of hand and will get out of hand even more if there is no response," he said.
