OKYpY is marking today as a milestone day as the main upgrade projects of the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital begin.
The upgrade of the unique Hospital for Mother and Child aims to improve the services provided and at the same time create a modern, safe and friendly environment for children, parents and health professionals, according to a statement from the Organization.
The project, which is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, includes the design, construction and twelve-year maintenance of new and renovated hospital infrastructure. Work begins today with site preparation, while completion of the project is scheduled for the end of September 2026.
"This is a substantial investment in health, which aspires to transform the experience of hospitalization and care at the Hospital, prioritizing the needs of the child and the family."
As part of the project, it is reported, a new building will be erected on the south side of the existing complex, which will consist of a basement, ground floor and two floors.
The ground floor will house the new Children's Emergency Department, fully equipped with examination beds, a recovery room, a septic operating room, an isolation ward and a plaster room, as well as a playground. The Emergency Department will communicate via elevators with all floors of the new building and with the existing hospital, ensuring seamless connectivity and full functionality.
The first floor, the announcement continues, will house the Pediatric Neurology Department and the Rare Diseases and Genetics Clinic. The spaces will include specialized clinics, a psychologist's office, a breastfeeding room, areas for developmental monitoring and short-term hospitalization wards. At the same time, the Rare Diseases Clinic will have, among other things, areas for counseling, nursing operations and a playground.
The second floor, explains OKYpY, will house the new Burns Department and the Surgery Department. The spaces will be specially designed to serve the needs of children, with single and double wards, a sterile operating room, etc.
At the same time, the complete renovation of the Gynecology Clinic, the Maternity Ward A & B, as well as the Pediatric Surgery Clinic in the existing building is planned, with the aim of creating modern and functional facilities.
New single and triple rooms with private bathrooms will be created in the Gynecology Clinic, as well as the necessary auxiliary and administrative spaces, it is noted.
In the Maternity Wards, the creation of eight single, eight triple and two quadruple rooms is planned, as well as specially designed areas for breastfeeding, phototherapy, etc.
The Pediatric Surgery Clinic will be completely renovated, with new single and triple wards, adapted to the needs of young patients and their families.
Parking spaces are provided in the basement, including specially designed spaces for the disabled, as well as all necessary auxiliary facilities such as engine rooms, power plants and warehouses.
The implementation of the project constitutes another important step in the course of upgrading OKYpY, the Organization's announcement states, which is constantly evolving, modernizing and strengthening its infrastructure, with the aim of providing the highest quality health services that fully meet the needs and expectations of citizens.
