The Cabinet of Ministers approved on Wednesday the immediate hiring of 108 people to strengthen the staffing of the Department of Forestry to meet the needs of forest firefighters, operators of special vehicles, and fire wardens, said the Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou.
In her statements after the session of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace, Mrs. Panagiotou said that the Council of Ministers decided to strengthen the staffing of the Forestry Department and to announce a series of measures with financial incentives that strengthen prevention in traditional areas.
He noted that the Forestry Department "is being strengthened with the immediate recruitment of 108 people to meet the needs of forest firefighters, special vehicle operators, and fire wardens".
Measures related to financial incentives include, he added, the launch of a pilot program of controlled grazing, the cultivation of abandoned fields, the implementation of forestry measures in forests and woodlands and the cutting of grasses and low, unwanted bushes on road shoulders, and 100% financing in clusters of communities bordering forest areas to supply chippers.
These measures start to be implemented from this month, the Minister said finally.
