Fifteen people are due to appear in court charged with stalking and harassment offences.
According to the Deputy Constable of the BB Police Antonis Dimitriou, "there are currently 12 cases in the Western Regions of the BB and three in the Eastern and this shows the effectiveness and importance of this decree in protecting victims of such criminal offenses."
He further explained what the new tracking and harassment legislation means, noting that, “tracking actions can be repeated unwanted contact, following, social media monitoring, unwanted or unwanted communication, tracking or spying.
"Harassment is any of the above which causes concern, anxiety or distress to any person. Also, the spreading of gossip or rumours, verbal or non-verbal abuse, persistent and unjustified criticism and constant mockery,” he added.
The main priority for the Police is the protection of society and human life, preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice and according to Chief Constable Dimitriou, they need the help of citizens.
BB Police are committed to protecting vulnerable people and we urge victims or witnesses of such crimes to report them to the police, who are committed to a zero tolerance policy in dealing with such offenders," Mr Dimitriou concluded in his statement. .
