9 persons before the Criminal Court for a case of exceptional naturalization

Nine people, five natural and four legal, were referred today before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta, which will meet on June 24, for the first criminal case concerning the exceptional naturalization of foreign investors and businessmen, based on the report. Information from KYPE states that among the natural persons accused in the case is a lawyer from Larnaca and 4 employees of his office, who face a total of 37 charges.

Among the charges are offenses involving forgery of government documents, circulation of forged documents and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The case concerns the naturalization of a person from Iran, who received Cypriot citizenship, through the Investment Program, changing his details so as not to reveal that he was wanted abroad. Together with this person, they had received a passport of the Republic of Cyprus and his parents.

Today, the Larnaca District Court referred the case for a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca - Famagusta, which will meet on June 24, the date on which the accused are expected to be charged to answer. Until June 24, the accused were released on bail.

It is recalled that on May 14, the Legal Service proceeded to register before the Larnaca District Court, the first criminal case concerning the exceptional naturalization of foreign investors and businessmen, based on the report prepared by the Ad Hoc Three-Member Committee.

It is noted that the Police, with instructions from the Attorney General, are examining other cases that stem from the conclusion of the Kalogiros Commission, some of which are at an advanced stage and are soon expected to be referred to the Legal Service for study and instructions.
