The case that came to light regarding the sexual harassment of a female soccer player is before the Police, as there was an official complaint.
In statements to CNA, and when asked whether a complaint was filed with the Police regarding the issue of sexual harassment of a female football player, the Force's Spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou responded positively.
"The Police confirm that they are investigating a complaint of sexual harassment against an athlete," said Ms. Lambrianidou and added that "I do not intend to make any further statements due to the fact that the case concerns vulnerable persons and these cases are not made public to protect the victim."
For his part, the Executive President of the Cyprus Footballers' Association (PASP), Spyros Neophytides, told CNA that the Association is following its protocol, is proceeding normally with every step in the case and will take it to the end.
The case came to light on Tuesday after the footballer in question filed a complaint with the PASP, who a few days earlier had been approached by the athlete about the matter, requesting the Association's assistance and protection.
In turn, PASP, through its legal advisor, had addressed separate letters to the KOP and the KOA, requesting their cooperation and assistance.
The KOP called on the PASP to file a complaint with the competent authorities, unequivocally condemned any form of abuse or harassment in sports and declared itself ready, within the framework of its responsibilities, to provide all possible support and assistance to any person who has suffered such behavior.
For its part, the Public Service Commission has established partnerships with competent services and at the same time has adopted the code of practice in the public service for the prevention and treatment of harassment and sexual harassment.
In accordance with the above, the KOA responded immediately and replied with a letter to the PASP regarding the actions that can be taken, as well as that the Organization can inform the athlete regarding the complaint process and the provision of psychological support from competent services, organizations and programs of the state.
Additionally, the CMO stated in the letter that it can monitor the process that will be followed by the competent Federation regarding the handling of the case.
