Imprisonment sentences of 12 months up to four years were imposed on four persons, after the trial of four cases, related to offenses committed during the transportation of a number of third country nationals, by sea vessels, in the area of ​​Famagusta, this year in February, March and in April.

Specifically, a four-year prison sentence was imposed on a 33-year-old man, last Tuesday, August 06, by the District Court of Famagusta, for committing the offenses of assisting the illegal entry of third-country nationals into the territory of the Republic, as well as for the offense of in relation to prohibited immigrant legislation. The case concerned the arrival of 97 illegal immigrants, by sea boat, in the area of ​​free Famagusta, on April 1, 2024. Among them was the 33-year-old, who was arrested by members of the Police, after evidence emerged of the commission of the offences.

Today, Thursday, the District Court of Famagusta imposed on three men aged 20, 27, and 42, prison terms of 12 months, 24 months, and 30 months, respectively.

The 20-year-old and 27-year-old were found guilty of committing the offenses of assisting a prohibited immigrant to enter the Republic, entering the Republic without permission, as well as an offense in relation to prohibited immigrants legislation.

The 20-year-old was found guilty in connection with a case involving the arrival of 21 irregular immigrants, by sea vessel, in the area of ​​the free Famagusta, on February 09, 2024, while the 27-year-old was found guilty in connection with a case involving the arrival of 22 irregular immigrants, with sea ​​vessel, in the area of ​​free Famagusta, on March 11, 2024. Among the total of 43 immigrants, there were also the 20-year-old and 27-year-old, who were arrested by members of the Police.

Finally, in relation to a case concerning the arrival of 104 irregular immigrants, by sea vessel, in the area of ​​the free Famagusta, on February 11, 2024, the 42-year-old, who was among the 104 irregular immigrants, was found guilty of committing the offenses of assisting the illegal entry of third-country nationals into the territory of the Republic, and aiding or abetting a prohibited immigrant to enter the Republic.
