Two people, aged 36, were arrested yesterday by the Police, to facilitate the investigations regarding case of poaching, pursuit of prey within a restricted hunting area and non-compliance with a gamekeeper's signal.

The case was reported to the Police by members of the Thera and Fauna Service. According to the complaint around 7 p.m. Yesterday, a patrol of the Thera and Fauna Service, heard gunshots, coming from a forbidden hunting area, in the province of Nicosia. The rangers then located three people, inside the no-hunting area, accompanied by dogs, while one of them was in possession of a shotgun.

As soon as the three persons realized the presence of the members of the Thera Service, they boarded two vehicles, which did not have registration numbers, and fled. The rangers followed the two vehicles, calling on the drivers to stop for a check. However As soon as the game of the Hunting and Fauna Service approached the suspicious vehicles, the drivers of the two vehicles allegedly drove their vehicles towards the service vehicle, as a result of which they hit it in the front part, causing slight damage. After the conflict, the two suspicious vehicles managed to escape in an unknown direction.

During the above incident, the members of the Game and Fauna Service, recognized two of the above persons. They are two 36-year-old residents of Larnaca province. Arrest warrants were issued against them, under which they were arrested and detained to facilitate investigations.

During the episode, a member of the Game and Fauna Service was slightly injured. He visited the General Hospital of Nicosia where he received first aid and was discharged.
