The Paphos unit of the National Crime Agency (YKAN) proceeded with the arrest of a 19-year-old man to facilitate interrogations for an ongoing case of illegal possession of narcotics, assault on a police officer, resistance to lawful arrest and escape from lawful detention.
Members of the Police, during traffic checks they were conducting on Thursday afternoon in Paphos, signaled a vehicle driver to stop for a check.
According to the Police, the driver refused to comply and sped away, committing a series of traffic violations in order to evade control.
At a later stage, the vehicle was stopped and the driver, who was found to be 19 years old, was arrested for flagrante delicto.
During the arrest process, he resisted and managed to escape. A member of the Police fired warning shots into the air.
During his escape, the 19-year-old dropped a nylon bag on the ground, which contained a small amount of cannabis.
The 19-year-old then returned to the scene, where, with his written consent, a search of his vehicle was conducted.
During the investigation, a small amount of cocaine and a small amount of cannabis were identified and seized as evidence.
The 19-year-old underwent a preliminary drug test, with a positive result.
An arrest warrant was subsequently issued against him for the offenses of assault on a police officer, resisting lawful arrest and escaping from lawful custody.
YKAN (Paphos Ladder) continues the exams.
