Ten more arrests were made today by the Police, during a coordinated operation, which was set up after an intelligence assessment, for a migrant trafficking ring to Cyprus and in which more than 130 members of the Police participated.
The large-scale operation was carried out in the district of Paphos and was carried out after an intelligence assessment, with the participation of members of the Y.A.&M., the T.A.E. (E), of M.M.A.D. and of the Y.K.A.N., during which coordinated search operations were carried out. Specifically, 17 search warrants were executed in houses and properties where ten persons were located and arrested, while five more are wanted.
From the investigations which are still ongoing, the sum of €160,000 was found in the possession of one of the arrested persons as well as various other documents, which have been seized for further examinations.
As it appears from the Police examinations, the arrested allegedly participated in a criminal organization that deals with the illegal trafficking of immigrants. These are offenses committed from June 2019 until today in the Republic of Cyprus and concern, among other things, offenses of conspiracy to commit a felony, participation in a criminal organization, trafficking in adults and offenses in violation of the Law on the Legalization of Proceeds from Illegal Activities.
Today's operation is the third in a series of large-scale police operations to dismantle migrant trafficking networks and today's arrests bring the total number of arrests to 22.
The Police continues its intensive efforts to identify and arrest persons who act as traffickers, with the aim of dismantling illegal immigrant trafficking rings in the Republic of Cyprus.
