Turkey's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, forwarded to the UN Secretary-General a letter from Mehmet Dana - who is claimed to represent the pseudo-state - alleging "airspace violations", requesting its circulation as an official document of the General Assembly and the Security Council.
In his letter, Mr. Dana claims that in 2024 there were “violations of the airspace” of the pseudo-state by the Republic of Cyprus and Greece. He characterized these actions as a “provocation and flagrant violation of the sovereignty” of the pseudo-state, arguing that they “threaten the security of international civil aviation and endanger the lives of passengers.”
Among other things, reference is made to aircraft flights that "did not respond to calls from the Air Traffic Control Center" of the illegal Tympos airport, "violating" - allegedly - international civil aviation rules regarding flight safety.
The letter also states that there are “two independent self-governing states in Cyprus, each with sovereignty and jurisdiction over its territory.” According to Mr. Dana, any flight in the “airspace” of the pseudo-state “must have the approval of its competent authorities and they call for an immediate cessation of provocative actions.”
Mr. Dana calls on the United Nations and the international community “not to condone these violations that may cause tension in the region and endanger lives,” arguing that they increase tension in the region.
