How to protect ourselves and what to know with the coming of autumn - What Professor Karagiannis says

Following the new measures for the coronavirus pandemic announced by the Ministry of Health on Friday (21/8) there is concern in the community after the increase in cases, for possible spread of the virus with the return of citizens from their holidays in daily life and in their workplace.

In our communication with the Professor of Microbiology / Molecular Virology of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, Petros Karagiannis himself spoke to Offsite about how we should act on our return to work, about how to protect vulnerable groups and what to do. to be careful with the coming of autumn. When is it good to take the test and what is its advice to young people.

What to watch out for when we return to work

Mr. Karagiannis said that when people return to the workplace, they must be very careful because they will now be indoors. We must constantly wear our protective mask because you can not know who can be positive for the virus, he added.

"The protocols for each activity must be applied as they are recorded, so that we do not have problems spreading the virus."

He stressed that this must be the way we will act from now until the coronavirus vaccine is released.

"If we follow the 3 necessary instructions, ie to wear a protective mask, to keep our distance and to disinfect our hands often, then there is no reason to worry."

How to protect vulnerable groups

Vulnerable groups should restrict their movements a little but not be closed tightly in their homes.

With the use of a mask they can take a walk even in an outdoor area where there is congestion, it is enough to keep their distance and I hope everything goes well, added Mr. Karagiannis.

Who is good to take the test

Mr. Karagiannis stated that there is no reason for citizens to take a diagnostic test for preventive reasons, if they have no symptoms.

People who have traveled abroad and have returned may be advised to take a preventive diagnostic test before returning to work.

What to watch out for with the coming of autumn

With the arrival of autumn, as Mr. Karagiannis mentioned, nothing must change in the way we protect ourselves, we simply have to be very careful indoors. The interiors are particularly conducive to the transmission of the virus, so we should always wear our mask and keep the windows open to get plenty of fresh air.

Even when we have the air conditioner on, it is good to leave a window open for fresh air.

Advice to young people

"Young people need to be very careful in their gatherings, especially when they are with strangers. If possible, they should keep their distance so that there is no resurgence due to them. "Otherwise, after their contacts, they can get the virus at home, to their parents, grandparents, some of whom may belong to vulnerable groups."
