Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said in a statement that an agreement in Cyprus could be reached by accepting two "equal sovereign states" living side by side and not on the basis of a federal cooperative.
In a statement to the Russian news agency Sputnik, as reported by the Press and Information Office, Mr. Tatar said that this is the view of Turkey and added that an agreement will benefit everyone.
He also argued that an agreement in Cyprus would reorganize the balances in the Eastern Mediterranean and bring stability.
Claiming that "northern Cyprus" could be recognized as a sovereign state, Tatar said that "an agreement can only be reached with a state whose international status has been equalized. There is still no answer as to when the recognition will come, but we are trying for that. "Today very few people are left in the world who have not heard about the case of the Turkish Cypriots."
Now, he claimed, "everyone saw that the Turkish Cypriots were wronged." The people, he said, "who hear our voice, will give us our justice, soon, not far away. After our domination will come recognitions. They tell us 'if the Turkish Cypriots get stuck in the Greek Cypriot state, come and become Europeans'. This never matches our national dignity. It is not possible to accept this. We have established a state and we must make it survive. If there is an agreement in Cyprus, it will be made only between independent states
