The decree issued last year for the protection of workers, who are exposed to the conditions of the heat, is still valid, said the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance Yiannis Panagiotou.
Asked about this on the sidelines of a press conference on unemployment, Mr. Panagiotou stated that in the event that the meteorological service issues announcements, which include a reference to an orange or red warning, then the provisions of the decree are also activated, according to which comparable works , in certain outdoor areas are interrupted for certain hours so that workers exposed to the heat can be protected.
"We believe that the experience of last year confirmed the correctness of the decision taken by the Government at the time, having activated in a number of cases the provisions of the decree, something that was in the interest of the safety and health of the workers", he noted.
Mr. Panagiotou also said that in the next period the Ministry will try to complete a round of contacts with the social partners to make sure that the provisions of the decree, in accordance with last year's experience, are indeed properly formulated in order to be able to applied smoothly.
