Out-of-court settlement of thousands of euros for the employment of two asylum seekers

Two political asylum seekers were found working illegally on a building under construction

An operation in the context of its actions to combat illegal employment and employment was carried out by the Paphos Police last Wednesday, January 26th.

The operation was attended by members of ADE Paphos, OPE Paphos, YKAN, MMAD and YA & M, as well as employees of the Labor Office. During it, inspections were carried out on buildings under construction and other workplaces, in the wider area of ​​the city and the province of Paphos.

Two political asylum seekers were found working illegally on a building under construction in Kato Paphos. After being arrested for a self-inflicted crime, they were taken to a Police Station, where they were charged in writing and released.

The employer of the two arrested, who was called to the Police Station, was issued an administrative fine for undeclared work, by the employees of the Labor Office, amounting to € 7,000. An out-of-court fine was also issued to the employer's company, amounting to € 2,750, for violation of articles of the Construction Law.

The Paphos Minor Offenses Department is investigating the case.
