According to OELMEK's complaint, the incident took place last Thursday, when extracurriculars entered the school grounds and attempted to harass students.
Then, the Assistant Director called them to leave and they attacked her, hitting her on the back, causing her to fall to the ground, writhing in pain.
OELMEK calls on the Ministry of Education to assume its responsibilities and proceed immediately to take the necessary measures, so that there are no more incidents of violence in schools.
This announcement:
"OELMEK denounces the new serious incident of violence against an Assistant Director, which took place on Thursday 10/10/2019 in a high school in Pafos District.
Specifically, extracurriculars entered the school premises illegally and attempted to harass students. The said Assistant Principal called them to leave the school and they treacherously slapped her on the back, causing her to fall to the ground writhing in pain. This new serious case of violence by extracurriculars, which is a frequent phenomenon in this particular school, proves the daily serious dangers faced by teachers and students inside the school premises.
OELMEK calls on the YPPAN to assume its responsibilities and proceed immediately to take the necessary measures so that there are no more incidents of violence within the school units, which threaten the physical integrity of Teachers and Students.
The issue of dealing with delinquent behavior within the school premises and especially within the classrooms is always among the priorities of our Organization, which over time submits a series of recommendations to the Ministry of Education and Culture to deal with such impermissible behaviors. Unfortunately, however, to our regret, we observe obstruction on the part of the YPPAN in the adoption of our recommendations, which aim to eliminate such serious incidents of violence, as well as the smooth learning process in school classrooms".
