Two hooded men set up a sophisticated death ambush for 55-year-old Thanasis Kalogeropoulos, known to the authorities for several cases.
It was around 8 in the morning, when the victim was trying to park his vehicle, in the coastal area of Germasogeia, where he was going for his morning swim.
Then the perpetrators, who seem to have known his movements very well, stopped their vehicle in front of the parking lot, approached on foot where he was, gassed him and turned him into smoke.
The head of the TAE Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou in his statements said that they were armed with firearms and had their faces covered, fired shots at the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle and left with their vehicle.
When the hooded men opened fire, Kalogeropoulos tried to escape in his vehicle, however, he was shot again and fell dead.
The brutal killing was not only done in broad daylight, but also in a crowded spot where bathers and children were present, causing panic.
After a few minutes, the vehicle used by the perpetrators was found parked near the bypass north to the village of Germasogeia.
A pistol, a Kalashnikov type weapon, bullets and magazines were reportedly found inside the burnt vehicle. Since the tests, the vehicle had been reported stolen on the 7th of the month.
Mr. Kyriakou said that this is a well thought out and well thought out plan. "Examinations are being carried out and some evidence has been identified. We can't bring anything more."
The police authorities are trying to unravel the tangle of the case by putting under the microscope, closed surveillance circuits, while the taking of statements started from the first moment.
"We are trying to identify persons with whom the victim had dealings. He was known to the authorities and had been summoned on various occasions," said Mr. Kyriakou.
Although the victim was known to the authorities, he was never successfully prosecuted. The murder, at the same time, caused concerns about the possible opening of a cycle of revenge.
