On January 31st, the 50-year-old suspect, who is accused of a homicide committed on July 3rd in Pegeia with the victim's 43-year-old brother-in-law, is expected to answer the charges he is facing before the Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos.
The 50-year-old, who has been in custody all this time, did not respond at today's trial to the charges he is facing, after his lawyer, Neophytos Christou, requested time in order to receive further additional witness material, as well as for the closed circuit monitoring to be given to the defense.
The representative of the Accusing Authority, Attorney for the Republic A' Andreas Chatzikyrou, did not object to the request of the defense counsel. The Court set the case for January 31, 2025 at 09:30 for the 50-year-old to answer the indictment with the main charge of murder.
According to the Police, the incident started with an argument between the 50-year-old and the victim. From the tests that followed, it was established that the victim, together with the suspect and other relatives, were having a family meal in a certain area.
Under circumstances that are being investigated during the dinner the victim and suspect argued, got into a confrontation and other bystanders intervened.
The suspect allegedly left the scene but soon returned with a firearm with which he allegedly fatally wounded the victim and then left the area. The suspect was arrested in the morning hours of July 4th, he was interrogated and according to the Police he allegedly admitted to committing the crime.
