Dust in the atmosphere on Wednesday and widespread weather phenomena, rains and storms are expected to be brought on Friday by the disturbance centered on the area between Cyprus and Egypt, which will be accompanied by a drop in temperature by 3 degrees on Thursday and Friday, Meteorological Officer Panagiotis Georgiou told CNA.
Starting today, Monday, he said, isolated rains are expected in the mountainous areas. He added that on Tuesday afternoon, isolated rains are expected mainly in the mountainous areas and possibly in the north.
More phenomena, he noted, are expected on Wednesday, with local rains and a slight chance of a storm. The forecast is the same for Thursday, when isolated rains are expected, without ruling out a storm, he continued.
The weather phenomena of the next few days are due to a disturbance moving from the south, between Cyprus and Egypt, and affecting the Cyprus region, which, along with the rain, will apparently also carry dust, mainly on Wednesday, he said.
He explained that the dust in the atmosphere will be intense on Wednesday and will subside the same day, as no dust is expected on Thursday and in the following days.
Mr. Georgiou also said that the most intense phenomena are expected on Friday, when local rains and isolated storms are forecast. He added that according to the forecast, the phenomena will be widespread and several areas will be affected.
Regarding temperatures, he said that today, Monday, and tomorrow, Tuesday, will remain at the same levels as in the past few days, namely 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. He added that on Wednesday the mercury may rise by one degree, but on Thursday and Friday, a drop of up to 3 degrees Celsius is expected, i.e. slightly lower than the average temperatures for the season.
Asked about the possibility of issuing a warning for severe weather, he said that a warning could be issued for Friday.
Asked about the concentration of dust in the atmosphere, Mr. Georgiou further explained that no dust is expected today, Monday and tomorrow, Tuesday, but a wave of dust will affect the atmosphere on Wednesday, affecting the area from the south and receding quickly.
