The port of Kyrenia is headed for privatization, writes "Yeni Duzen" today, noting that the "mayor" of the occupied city, nor the "MPs" of the region, have not been informed about the matter.
As the publication states, the old port and the tower of Kyrenia, as well as the area behind it, which have been inactive for years due to the confusion of the responsibilities of the "authorities", have been included by decision of the "Council of Ministers" in the plan of privatizations and this has caused some reactions, while there are also shopkeepers there who say that perhaps privatization is the way out.
According to Jeni Duzen, the "mayor" of Kyrenia, Nidai Gyungiordou, stated that he has not been informed about the matter, he will seek information and discuss it with the legal advisors of the "municipality". They knew, he added, that there was a thought, an intention to privatize the port, but not that a decision had been made. He even mentioned that in July and August they held two meetings with the "Ministry of Tourism" regarding the port of Kyrenia, but no one mentioned privatization.
The "MP" of Kyrenia of the RTK, Olgun Talat, opposed the privatization and said in his post that "this job will not be as easy as they think". They are trying to privatize many places here as well, as is done in Turkey, said the "MP" also of the RTKK, Jeyhun Birinci, saying that "such places (like the port of Kyrenia) cannot be privatized".
The president of T/k hoteliers, Dimag Chainer, said that for years some people want the marina to be privatized, but he wondered what will happen to the rest of the port. He also said that everyone who came to power in the last 40 years did nothing for the port, and questioned whether the ground has really been prepared for the privatization of the area.
