Rumors have been rife lately about GeSy doctors, mainly surgical specialties, who, in addition to their activities within the system, also offer services to non-SyS hospitals and clinics.
The information is given and received between the doctors of the system, while relevant reports are also made from time to time to the Health Insurance Organization which, however, as the deputy general director of the organization Athos Tsinontidis told "F", "despite the efforts he was never able to secure a specific complaint about specific doctors». What is said in the various wells, is also monitored by the supervisory commissioner of the National Health Service, Christodoulos Kaisis, who included the specific issue in questionnaire which concerns the manner in which the scheme's doctors are or are not entitled to act.
"At the OAU, this information came about doctors who are contracted with the organization, that is to say doctors of the NHS and at the same time offer services, i.e. they operate both outside the NHS and in non-system hospitals and clinics». If that is the case, said Mr. Tsinondidis, "then it is definitely illegal." However, he added, “and we have asked the people who have informed us about this, in several cases, to give us specific names of doctors in the system who are carrying out these acts. When we do not know which doctors we are talking about, we are not able to do anything. Unless, of course, we decide to monitor 24 hours a day the non-GeSy medical centers to see who enters and who leaves".
At the same time, said Mr. Tsinondidis, "even if we locate these doctors, it will be impossible to prove that they offer paid services. In order to do this, we must have testimonies from citizens who have been operated by these doctors in a non-GeSy hospital or clinic and have paid." “We have no reason to question the people who are giving us this information. But we can't do anything if we don't have concrete evidence in our hands."
For his part, the supervisory commissioner of the National Health Service, Christodoulos Kaisis, told "F" that some relevant reports have been made to his office, but, as he also mentioned, nothing official has arrived in no case. "I have been sending a questionnaire to the OAU for months regarding what a doctor of the NHS is entitled to do and what not, and I await answers".
According to the information that is circulating among doctors and has also reached "F", certain doctors they participate in surgical operations that are performed outside the NHS and are paid accordingly, outside the system. In terms of information, of course some names have been circulating for some time.
However, Mr. Tsinondidis reminded that "very recently, when the OAU received specific information about specific public doctors who operated in hospitals, in addition to the OKYpY, registering the surgeries they performed in the name of their colleagues, we acted accordingly.
