Andri Anastasiadis at an event for the return of Parthenon Sculptures

A strong global message about the urgent need to return the Parthenon Sculptures, but also about the need to return to the Values ​​that this Monument symbolizes was sent from the event that took place last week at the Acropolis Museum, on the occasion of International Women's Day, and in which the wife of the President of the Republic, Andri Anastasiadis participated.

The event, entitled "Expatriate Goddesses of the Parthenon", was organized by the Acropolis Museum and the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis Foundation, was also attended by the President of the Hellenic Republic Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who addressed a greeting.

The keynote speaker at the event was the leading art historian Dr. Tom Flynn, while greetings were also addressed by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Greece Mrs. Maria Syregela on behalf of the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Minister of Culture and Sports The President of the Acropolis Museum, Professor Dimitris Pantermalis, the UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Marianna V. Vardinoyannis and the Director General of the Acropolis Museum, Professor Nikolaos Stampolidis, greeted her.

In her greeting at the event, Ms. Anastasiadis referred, among other things, to the debt for a "fairer and more equal society towards all women without exception: working women, mothers, single parents, immigrants, asylum seekers, women who living in conditions of poverty, abuse, deprivation and violation of their rights.
It is a day dedicated to women who excel, women who innovate, but even more so to women who struggle in obscurity, with meager means and more adversity to survive, and who are role models and inspiration for all of us.
We must give women hope for a better tomorrow, and this can only be achieved by providing truly equal opportunities for access to all areas of life: education, work, health, justice, power. " .

The event ended with the musical performance "Of the Silent Fragments", with singer Maria Farantouri.
