The Holy Synod meets today at 10 am where it will discuss the preparations for the Archbishop's elections. Procedural problems that have arisen will also be discussed.

The Metropolitan of Paphos Georgios spoke on Radio Proto and was asked, among other things, whether there is a possibility that the date of the Archbishop's Elections could be changed.

"I don't know but I think not. The problems that we had said in advance that could move the date were the registration of many foreigners, but we still did not invite them," said the Metropolitan of Paphos and observer of the Throne.

Speaking about homosexuals and the position of the church, he said: "The church has its role which comes from the Gospel and the Holy Bible. If the church turns to these people it will show all its love, but it can only rely on the Gospels.

If proven medicine assures us that some people are born with this orientation then we must refer to the spirit of the Holy Bible and find answers, until now this thing has not been done. That is why we surround with our love the whole world of any category and direction, but we cannot help but expose the position of the church as well".

Asked about immigration, he said that "the church opens its heart to those in need. They come from war situations, when their lives are in danger then we help and defend them. But the immigration issue became a tool in the hands of Turkey to create many problems for us.

Most of them come from Constantinople to the illegal airport of Timbos and from there to here. We must protect our country from them. Our position is next to the government to implement the regulations governing the European Union".
