The Police are investigating a complaint of alleged medical negligence, concerning the death of a 59-year-old woman from the province of Larnaca, Police spokesperson Christos Andreou told KYPE.

He added that "on May 3, a complaint was made to the Police about the death of a 59-year-old woman in the province of Larnaca, which occurred on April 27. The relatives of the 59-year-old woman had secured a certificate for the cause of her death, without an autopsy being performed beforehand, and proceeded with the burial."

However, he continued, "after the complaint of her relatives, the investigators immediately proceeded to exhume the body, based on a court order. The prescribed autopsy followed, which did not establish the cause of the woman's death, while some samples from the body were omitted, which were sent for scientific and other tests."

Answering a related question, Mr. Andreou said that "pending the results of these tests, the Police is proceeding with an investigation of the case. At the same time, as is done in all cases of medical negligence, there will be cooperation with the Ministry of Health to appoint a medical officer."

To another question, the Police Spokesperson replied that "the investigators have received the woman's Medical File from the Hospital, where some doctors had been called to examine her. With the help of specialized personnel of the Medical Services, the investigators are investigating all possibilities related to the medical negligence reported to the Police", he concluded.
