Ekrem Imamoglu's victory in Istanbul on Sunday night (31/3) was perhaps the biggest blow to Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the run-up to the local elections.
Ekrem Imamoglou, born in 1970 in Trabzon, also has relations with Cyprus since from 1988-90 he studied in the occupied territories. Specifically, at the age of 18, the new mayor of Istanbul, studied in Kyrenia while also playing football as a goalkeeper for the TOL team (Turk Ocagi Limassol).

After his studies in the occupied territories, he also studied at the University of Istanbul, receiving a degree in Business Administration.
His relations with the occupied territories led him to make the monument in Constantinople for Cyprus, with Kioutsouk and Archbishop Makarios where the Gray Wolves vandalized.
