Holy Synod: Seeks the consent of the laity and clergy with its previous decision on the pandemic

The Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus in its regular session on Thursday reaffirmed its previous decision regarding the treatment of the coronavirus pandemic and the issue of vaccinations and called on all hierarchs, priests and lay people to comply with it.

An announcement of the Holy Synod states that "the members of the Holy Synod expressed their support for this decision, while the President of the Republic also appealed to everyone to help in the Government's effort to address the situation".

According to the announcement, in its 3rd regular session for the current year, the Holy Synod "was informed by the President of the Republic, who responded to a relevant invitation of His Beatitude to inform about the current position of our national issue".

The President of the Republic also answered questions from the members of the Holy Synod.

Also, the Holy Synod "reaffirmed the decision of the last session on the abolition of the representation of the Church of Cyprus in the European Union and the closure of the office in Brussels".

The Holy Synod that met under the chairmanship of Archbishop Chrysostom II also dealt with issues of the Theological School of the Church of Cyprus and the Theological School "Apostle Barnabas" in view of the beginning of the new school year.

Specifically, he was informed by the Principals of the faculties, First Elder, Kyprianos Kountouris and Archimandrite Benediktos Ioannou, respectively, about issues of their faculties and approved the list of newly admitted students of the Theological School "Apostolos Barnabas 2121"

Finally, the Holy Synod appointed by lot the members of the five-member Synodal Court for the new year.

The members are the Metropolitans of Morphou, Constantia, Tamassos and the Bishops of Karpasia and Arsinoe and the deputies are the Metropolitans of Kiti, Kyrenia, Limassol, Trimithou and the Bishop of Amathus, concludes the announcement of the Holy Synod.
