The opinion that the Government does not want to change the situation in Cyprus, in relation to corruption, was expressed on the show "Morning Inspection" on Politis 107.6 and 97.6 by the lawyer, Elias Stefanou. Mr. Stefanou, when asked to comment on the postponement of the vote on the bill for the Independent Authority against Corruption, said that the problem in Cyprus is big, but this Authority is an advisory body and not an interventionist.

Defining what "corruption" means, Mr. Stefanou explained that is the exercise of power for own purposes and benefit, with other people's motives and not for the common good, but for personal benefit, while he also spoke about the piggy bank in Cyprus. Unfortunately, he added, it seems that the problem of unworthiness and the interventions of political leaders exist in Cyprus.

We have laws for criminal offenses, but it also depends on how we apply them, said the well-known lawyer and stressed that there are methods by which one can hide the financial benefit.

Referring to the way the Police act, he noted that the House has powers, but the question is whether there is trust in it to investigate corruption offenses, as well as An important role is played by which persons are in high positions in the Police and the way in which they are appointed.
