At least 24 people were slightly injured in New York on Thursday when two subway trains collided, one of which derailed, emergency services said, shutting down one of Manhattan's busiest districts.
Three lines of the sprawling network of one of the world's oldest subways were paralyzed, and the northwestern part of the metropolis' main island, Manhattan's Upper West Side, was overwhelmed and cordoned off by firefighters, police and ambulances.

The New York subway is neglected, in poor condition, yet accidents and problems on the vast network are generally rare, and its use has become massive again after being abandoned due to the pandemic and the increase in crime between 2020 and 2022.
