Rain and isolated storms are expected until Wednesday, while the temperature will rise on Friday, Iasonas Christodoulou, Meteorological Officer of the Department of Meteorology, told CNA.
Referring to the temperatures recorded these days, Mr. Christodoulou noted that they are "normal for the season, close to 15-16°C, they are the average climatic values that we should have had for this period". As he said, "we remain at these temperatures in the coming days".
Furthermore, Mr. Christodoulou said that rain and isolated storms are expected until Wednesday, mainly at noon and in the afternoon, noting that there may be some isolated rain for the remaining hours.
"For Thursday morning, we are likely to have some isolated showers, however the weather will soon become mainly clear, as it will be on Friday, although some increased high clouds will be observed," he added.
At the same time, he noted that the weather will improve considerably on Thursday and Friday, adding that by Thursday, temperatures will be close to 15-16°C. On Friday, he continued, "the temperature will increase slightly, close to 2 degrees, so that we will now be a little above the average climatic values."
Responding to a question from CNA about the areas where precipitation will occur, Mr. Christodoulou said that generally isolated rains are expected during the day, mainly in the mountains and inland. However, as he said, "the remaining areas are also quite likely to have it during the night," noting that areas near the coast are most likely.
Asked if the rains will alleviate Cyprus' water problem to some extent, he replied that a lot of rain is needed to solve the problem, noting, however, that "they will definitely give something." As he explained, some areas will likely receive more rain, noting that "when we have a storm event, we have enough rainfall."
Referring to the snowfall in Troodos, Mr. Christodoulou said that the average snow depth is 10-13 centimeters, adding that there will be snowfall at intervals in the higher mountains until Thursday morning. When asked if there is a possibility of snowfall in Nicosia, he answered negatively.
