The Meteorology Department issued a yellow warning for storms on Friday, in effect from 17:00 on Friday until 00:00 on Saturday.
Isolated strong storms are expected to affect mainly the west and north, the warning says, adding that hail is expected to fall in the storm.
The intensity of the rain locally will range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, it concludes.
As meteorological officer Andreas Hadjigeorgiou told CNA, the severe weather phenomena will be observed on the western and northern coasts and possibly later on the southern coast, while it is considered more unlikely that the eastern coast will be affected.
No severe weather events are expected after midnight.
Tomorrow, Saturday, according to Mr. Hadjigeorgiou, the temperature will rise to 20 degrees inland and on the coast and to 10 in the higher mountains.
On Sunday, a further drop of two degrees Celsius is expected, with rainfall initially occurring in coastal areas and progressively in mountainous and inland areas.
For the period between Monday and Wednesday, Mr. Hadjigeorgiou said that the forecast shows rain and possibly local storms.
