The professor of Microbiology / Molecular Virology of the University of Nicosia, Dr. Petros Karagiannis, spoke on the front page about the new measures announced by the Minister of Health on Wednesday night (5/11).
Initially, the expert said that we should follow the measures, which are not very strict, emphasizing that they could be stricter due to an emerging tendency to reduce it. He explained that if we follow the measures, we may reset the cases below 100 and the tracking tool will return. In fact, he stressed that if the internal pollution is controlled, we will turn to the entrance gates, where there is a worrying increase,
Asked about the next steps, if they do not work, he replied that they may not be a universal lockdown, but a local one. He added that Limassol has many more cases than all the provinces together, while the cases there are active.
Asked why 33 cases of lockdown were imposed during the first wave of the pandemic, while now no, he answered that months have passed since then and two or three drugs have been found, now experts know more about its bad manifestations and how to deal with them. He pointed out that doctors, nurses and hospitals are better prepared to deal with this situation, although he warned of an increase in the number of patients in recent days in Cyprus.
He also referred to the issue of coronavirus mortality, reiterating that the virus is more deadly than the flu.
Finally, regarding the excursions organized by students, he stated that it is outrageous, we should not think of excursions while the world is "burning". He urged parents to step in, because the epidemiological team had said no to the trips for a long time and this message probably did not pass.
