The initiative announced by the President of the Republic for the unified development of Larnaca port and marina, with a budget of 1,2 billion euros, is being implemented, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos said on Wednesday.

Mr. Karousos was briefed this afternoon, at the offices of Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd in Larnaca, on the final General Spatial Plan for the port and marina of Larnaca, a project that is expected to be completed in four phases.

In his statements, the Minister stated that "today the investor of the marina and the port of Larnaca presented the final General Spatial Plan submitted to the Service of the Ministry for final approval and then will be forwarded to the Department of Urban Planning and Housing to receive the final of approvals. This is the largest investment that exists in Cyprus at the moment, with a budget that reaches 1,2 billion euros ".

He added that "this investment was an initiative announced by the President of the Republic, which is being implemented. We know very well what it means for the citizens to turn words into deeds and today with the submission of the final General Spatial Plan, we send the message that we are moving forward, that we are within the timetables, so as to deliver the port and marina of Larnaca on April 1 to the investor ".

Mr. Karousos thanked "Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd and the CEO Panos Alexandrou, for the good cooperation, as well as the Port Utilization Team of the Ministry who do an excellent job for the implementation of the project under the guidance of the General Director of the Ministry of Transport Stavrou Michael ".

The Minister also stated that "to get here today, to be able to sign this investment, but also to enter the implementation stage, requires hard and methodical work by many, especially the Director of the Ministry of Transport and its Officers ».

For his part, the CEO of Kition Ocean Holdings. Panos Alexandrou said that "today we have managed to complete an important milestone by submitting the final form of our master plan. The next stage is its approval and signature and its complete submission to the urban planning authorities, so that it can be approved, something which we hope will happen in the next 10 days or so ".

He also expressed satisfaction with the fact that "everything is proceeding according to our schedule and we are ready to start the construction works, which we hope will start on April 1, the same day that we will undertake the project. "As the first project, we have the upgrade of the protected dock and the construction works of the infrastructure will follow, which are necessary for the subsequent completion of the project".

As Mr. Alexandrou said, "the project is of the order of 1,2 billion euros, which we intend and plans to complete within 12 years, with the first phase lasting the first five years".

At the same time, he thanked "the Minister of Transport, the General Manager and his team and all the government departments, with which so far we have an excellent cooperation. We are proud because this is a project that has not been done again within the timeframes that have been set from the first day, ie to be kept, observed and completed ".

He also expressed the belief that "many more projects can be done with good will and cooperation and we hope that other large such investments will follow us".

It is noted that the General Spatial Plan is submitted to the Ministry of Transport together with the Environmental Impact Assessment Study, the Traffic Impact Assessment, the Work Schedule, the Commercial Impact Assessment and the Business Plan.
