A convict in the Central Prisons was injured yesterday by barbed wire and was taken to the General Hospital.

Specifically, according to an announcement by the Department of Prisons, yesterday at approximately 13:50 p.m., a defendant of African origin, while in court, tried to climb a metal gate that led to the laboratories, as a result of which he was injured by barbed wire in the abdomen.

According to the announcement, the reaction of the prison guards on duty was immediate, he was transferred to the Prisons clinic and then, following the instructions of the Medical Officer of the Prisons Department, he was transferred to the General Hospital where the wounds were sutured and he was kept for preventive monitoring.

His state of health is good, while the causes that led to the incident are being examined by the Department of Prisons.
