The Office of the Commissioner for Volunteering and Non-Governmental Organizations has launched the Pancyprian Emergency Management Center at the State Fair, which will coordinate the entire effort to collect dry food and send it to Lebanon to give to the thousands of homeless.

According to a statement, the whole effort is made in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with constant communication with the Government of Lebanon. This initiative is supported by Municipalities, Communities, Private Bodies, Non-Governmental Organizations and civil society.

The Commissioner for Volunteering and NGOs, Giannis Giannakis, is also collaborating with the Cyprus Red Cross, which is in contact with the International Red Cross and the Lebanese Red Cross.

The items are collected based on real needs on the ground and in accordance with the requests of the Lebanese Government. These items are: Canned food (of all kinds), cereals, nuts and crackers, general purpose flour and milk powder for children.

The dry food collection process will start tomorrow Friday, August 7, 2020.
