Η intervention of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child at statement-crown of the far-right narrative of the rulers, as expressed by the government spokesman and with which his statement targeted children with immigrant biographies in Cyprus, was the oasis in the desert of intolerance and racism that is now consciously cultivated by the Anastasiadis government.

On the side of Mrs. Michailidou the Movement of ecologists.

Read the original announcement of the Movement:

As an Environmental Movement - Citizens' Cooperation, we welcome the statement of the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Mr. Despos Michailidou-Livaniou, who stated that the Government Spokesman in his statement on "Children with immigrant biographies" all he did was intensify "the anxiety of society, the feeling of insecurity, xenophobia and intolerance".

In her statements, the MP of the Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation, Alexandra Attalidou, stated that "The government obviously does not realize that children are children, regardless of race, religion or social status. Unfortunately, what matters to the government is the money for it and it has no problem with millionaire criminals, on the contrary, it gives them passports and washes them without shame, dragging Cyprus.

The government is creating additional problems in Cyprus through illegal actions. Instead of working for the proper functioning of the asylum service and the examination of pending cases in order to properly manage the issue, it is instrumentalizing refugees and informal immigrants for political benefit by fishing for votes in the Far Right. They look like a child playing with matches but the tragedy is that they know very well what they are doing and leading society. They disorient her just to forget the scandals of strife and corruption.

We are now seeing a desperate attempt to cover up all the scandals that have come to light lately, in an attempt by the Government to turn the interest of the citizens and the news to another issue. But they must know that human rights and fundamental human freedoms are not negotiable or conditional on anyone. The government must act within the laws it has signed.

Managing immigration with barbed wire and railings also dealt a major blow to our efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, as it reinforces segregation and gives the impression that our government is not interested in the consequences of its decisions on relations between the two communities.
