The new Chairman of the Bicommunal Committee for Culture Dr. spoke about the result of the "parliamentary elections" in the occupied territories. Sotos Ktoris.

He initially said it was not an election with a serious political stake. "What prevailed was the economic crisis in Turkey which is affecting the occupied territories."

He added that the result shows the willingness of the Turkish Cypriots to support the "National Unity" party, which emerged as the party that can ensure a functioning relationship with Ankara, and therefore the continuation of financial support.

He pointed out that it is a victory of the wider center-right, while the non-entry of the historical party "Community Democracy", which was founded by Mustafa Akinci, is recorded. "There is a state crackdown because of Akinci's stance," he said.

He also referred to the good election result recorded by the main opposition party, the "Republican People's Party". She added that she to some extent denied the polls and got a percentage of over 30%.

Mr. Ktoris pointed out that the result does not affect the Cyprus issue, as the form of a federal solution has finally ended after the election of Ersin Tatar.

He clarified that the turnout was 9% below the previous elections, adding that the elections were held in pandemic conditions and bad weather conditions.

He explained that a power bloc is being formed in the occupied territories which is controlled exclusively by the Turkish Cypriot right with the support of Ankara.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Dr. Ktoris stated that there are two dominant trends. "One is the coexistence with Ersin Tatar and the other is the federal solution." He clarified that after Crans Montana, they consider that there is no such perspective and there is frustration as a result of which they do not mobilize.

He added that it is very difficult to find a third way that will reconcile the positions of the two parties. "It is good to promote the MOE in order to have a reversal of history in the near future, which will allow us to sit at the table with the aim of reunifying the island," he said.

He also spoke about the next day in the occupied territories, stressing that things remain difficult due to the financial crisis. "Economic dependence on Ankara nullifies political autonomy."

Finally, he said that those who have the upper hand in the Cyprus issue are the extremists and those who aspire to replace Erdogan may be even more hardcore in the Cyprus issue.
