Today is a crucial day in Geneva for the outcome of the informal conference on the Cyprus issue, convened by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to determine whether there is common ground for a resumption of substantive negotiations.
As part of the final preparations, in view of today's meetings at the United Nations headquarters, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, attends a meeting in the morning with his associates accompanying him to Geneva.
Yesterday, the first day of the conference, which is scheduled to end tomorrow Thursday, confirmed the gap between the two sides after Turkish leader Ersin Tatar insisted during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on his position for two-state solution, sovereign equality and recognition of the pseudo-state, while the Greek Cypriot side clarifies that it does not accept any differentiation of the form of solution as defined by Security Council resolutions and is not prepared to accept a two-state solution and recognize sovereignty of any kind. .
It is reminded that at 1100 in the morning Cyprus time, 1000 local time, a plenary session of the informal conference begins at the Palace of Nations, in which the UN Secretary General, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, the Turkish Cypriot leader, and the Foreign Ministers of the three guarantor powers, Turkey, Greece and the United Kingdom, Mevlüt Tsavousoglou, Nikos Dendias and Dominique Raab.
