The Press and Information Office often uploads excerpts from very old newspapers from the Office Newspaper Archive to its Facebook page.
So we came across an admittedly very interesting story that takes us back to 1942.
As we read in the newspaper "Independent" on February 18, 1942, a very original episode in those days occupied the inhabitants of the village of Kliros in the Province of Nicosia.
An 11-year-old got engaged to a 13-year-old! Because they were minors, the Church did not bless the engagements, but the couple committed themselves to a contract in the books of the common leader.
In fact, the 11-year-old asked for a dowry and whoever we read was content to ask for… 100 ppirilia (balls)!
