CYPRUS: 5.244 new cases - 43 patients at the Famagusta Hospital

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 7 2022:

- No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded COVID-19, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 650.

- 230 patients COVID-19 of which 81 are in serious condition. 77,83% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 139,334 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 5,244 (positivity rate: 3,76%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 197,401.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

No patient deaths were recorded with COVID-19. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 remains 650, of which:

411 men (63,2%), and

- 239 women (36,8%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 230 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 81 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 81 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 5 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 48 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 139,334 diagnoses made, 13,007 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 126,327 by the method of antigen rapid test, 5244 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 138 cases from 1,030 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 55 cases of 4,036 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 748 cases from 7,220 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 62 cases from 615 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 3,011 cases from 88,689 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,222 cases from 37,638 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 7 cases from 104 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case of 2 samples taken as part of closed structure tests.
