CYPRUS: These are the new measures - Announcements by the Minister of Health

The measures that were locked yesterday during the meeting of the PD with the Advisory Scientific Committee and the inter-ministerial group were brought before the Council of Ministers.

The Minister in an effort to curb the rapid spread of the Omicron mutation has adopted a new package of measures. The meeting ended shortly after 11 a.m. while the announcements were made at 13.00 p.m.

See the announcements: 

  • Operation of all schools on 10 / 1- Students and teachers with rapid test
  •  Normally from January 7 the kindergartens and Pre-Primary
  • Students should take a rapid test twice a week
  • Increase of telework to 50%
  • Giving five self tests to people who have completed their vaccination.
  • Recommendation to avoid using a fabric mask
  • Reduction to 200 people in restaurants, banquets and churches
  • Mandatory identification along with safe pass for identification purposes
  •  Removal of compulsory quarantine from African countries - State quarantine for those who refuse to undergo PCR testing
  •  Perform PCR test before departure at 72 hours instead of the current 48
  • Extension of measures until 31/1

"Yesterday, the President of the Republic listened carefully to the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee on the epidemiological picture of the country. The Council of Ministers today approved the suggestions of the experts who hope to stop the pandemic.

The message of the Council of Ministers is clear. We must trust science and support teamwork.

There is no other way! ", said among others Mr. Hadjipandelas.
