The dialogue on euthanasia in Cyprus opens, as it will soon be before the Human Rights Committee of the Parliament, after its own registration for discussion today.
As the Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Irini Charalambidou, informed on her own initiative, as well as that of the Member of Parliament of the Ecologists-Citizens' Cooperation Movement, Alexandra Attalidou, and with the consent of the other members of the Committee on Human Rights for discussion under the title "Euthanasia and the need for information and the start of social dialogue in Cyprus", in order to begin the dialogue on this serious issue.
He spoke in support of the US Alliance for Democracy, but said that maintaining some independence was not the answer.
"It is a sensitive issue, it is a legally and emotionally difficult issue. "It already has a strict legal framework in several EU countries, which should also be considered in Cyprus," said Ms. Charalambidou.
He also reminded that on December 10, World Human Rights Day, the competent Committee has sponsored the conference of the Pancyprian Bar Association, which will also focus on euthanasia.
According to the Chairwoman of the relevant Parliamentary Committee, the issue of euthanasia "is a very difficult issue", however, she stated that "society has endured the dialogue on equally difficult issues".
Specifically, he referred to the decriminalization of abortions and civil marriage, to note that "everyone must realize that there is nothing wrong with dialogue and that on dialogue we build development."
MP Alexandra Attalidou said that the issue of euthanasia "is very controversial with strong and urgent needs on both sides to be discussed".
He said that he believes that there are issues that concern not only the health, but also the lives of people, noting that the human rights conventions state that no human being can be subjected to torture and pain.
