The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 24, 2021:
- Two people have died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 356.
- 106 patients COVID-19 43 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 52,815 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 100 (positivity rate: 0,19%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 72,011.
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:
The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:
- A 60-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- A 82-year-old man who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 356, of which:
237 men (67%), and
- 119 women (33%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 78 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 106 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 43 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 43 patients in serious condition, 26 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 11 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 52,815 diagnoses made today, 6,742 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 46,073 by antigen rapid test, 100 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:
- 10 cases from 252 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 3 cases of 3,827 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 20 cases from 1,918 samples taken through private initiative.
- 8 cases from 456 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 3 cases from 616 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 56 cases from 45,457 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:
- 288 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 1 sample taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.
