The Ministry of Health announces that today, April 8, 2021:

- Two people have died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 268.

- 207 patients COVID-19 52 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 47,547 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 622 (positivity rate: 1,31%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 49,988.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A woman, 91 years old, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (two doses), who ended up at the General Hospital of Paphos.

- A woman, 44 years old, with an underlying disease, without a history of vaccination, who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 268, of which:

176 men (66%), and

- 92 women (34%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 207 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 52 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 52 patients who are critical, 31 are intubated and 21 in an Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 47,547 diagnoses made today, 3,752 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 43,795 by antigen rapid test, 622 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 126 cases from 731 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 2 cases of 847 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 114 cases from 1,614 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 15 cases from 431 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case from 129 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 30 cases from 760 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 334 cases from 43,035 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
