The Ministry of Health announces that today, October 18, 2021:
- Two people died of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 564.
- 57 patients COVID-19 of which 23 are in serious condition. 60% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
- 8 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 66,954 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 166 (positivity rate: 0,25%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 122,528.
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:
The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:
- A 75-year-old man, who ended up on October 16 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- A 56-year-old man who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 564, of which:
358 men (63%), and
- 206 women (37%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 76,2 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 57 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 23 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 23 patients in serious condition, 10 are intubated in the Intensive Care Unit and 13 in the Intensive Care Unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 66,954 diagnoses made, 5,934 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 61,020 by the method of antigen rapid test, 166 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:
- 25 cases from 403 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 8 cases of 3,378 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 16 cases from 1,382 samples taken through private initiative.
- 4 cases from 272 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 82 cases from 39,335 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 31 cases from 21,685 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:
- 499 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
