A large number of gold items, which are being investigated if they are stolen, have been found by the Police, after a search in a gold shop in Nicosia. The owner of the property, aged 78, was arrested and taken into custody for examination purposes.

According to a police statement, the search of the property was carried out as part of an investigation into a number of cases of burglaries and thefts, which were committed in the Nicosia district and for which two other persons, aged 19 and 22, were arrested last Sunday.

When interrogated, the two suspects allegedly admitted to committing ten burglaries and thefts, committed between February and November, 2024, in Nicosia province. Against them, an eight-day detention order was issued on Monday, by the Nicosia District Court, for examination purposes.

From the examinations that followed, evidence emerged that the 19-year-old and 22-year-old sold part of the stolen property at the 78-year-old's residence in Nicosia.

After a judicial search warrant was issued, members of the TAE Nicosia carried out a search of the premises yesterday, where they found a large number of gold items, which are being investigated as to whether they are stolen, as well as two gold alloys, with a total weight of 62,7 grams, the origin of which is being investigated.

The owner of a home that was burglarized identified one of the pieces of jewelry found in the 78-year-old's property as part of the property that had been stolen from her home.

With the recognition of the stolen gold, the members of the Police proceeded to arrest the 78-year-old, for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property.

Interrogated by members of the Police, the 78-year-old allegedly admitted to the purchase of gold, without issuing receipts and made various allegations, which are being investigated.
