The Middle East is on fire for the third consecutive twenty-four hours, following the coordinated military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran and Tehran's immediate response, events that are now shaping an environment of wide escalation throughout the region.
As reported, the British Akrotiri Bases were placed on high alert shortly after midnight, following a powerful explosion on the runway, which reportedly came from the military drone crash.
Residents of the Akrotiri Municipal District were removed from their homes as a precaution, while some were accommodated at the Limassol Central Hospital, following instructions from the President of the Republic, as reported by the Mayor of Kourion Pantelis Georgiou.
In relation to an incident that occurred shortly after midnight at Akrotiri Base, according to information received at various levels, it was an unmanned drone that caused limited damage.

British Ministry of Defense: Drone Targets Akrotiri Bases
According Sky News article, the British air base RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus was reportedly hit overnight by a suspected drone strike, the UK Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
According to the same report, the incident occurred shortly after midnight local time at the base near Limassol, which is a major military installation for RAF operations in the Middle East, as well as for training activities. British authorities reportedly assured that there were no casualties, while limited material damage was caused to the Akrotiri airport.

The Ministry of Defence said that British forces were responding to the incident, maintaining a high level of alert to protect soldiers and civilians.

Sky News also notes that the incident reportedly occurred a few hours after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom had agreed to allow the United States to use selected British bases, including Akrotiri, for defensive operations against Iranian missile targets in the Middle East. In the same context, the incident is considered to be part of a broader climate of tension in the region, under the weight of recent developments and the escalation of Israeli-Iranian rivalry.

Despite initial speculation about a possible connection to current geopolitical tensions, British authorities have not, according to the publication, confirmed the origin of the drone nor have they clarified whether the strike was intentional or the result of other circumstances.
Regarding the local dimension, Sky News reports that Cypriot officials reported that, after the sound of the explosion and the activation of sirens, several residents of the Akrotiri area temporarily abandoned their homes out of fear, seeking information and support from the competent authorities. In addition, the Cypriot government has reportedly convened the National Security Council, in order to assess the situation and coordinate actions with the British side.
Christodoulides: “Cyprus will not be part of military operations”
Cyprus does not participate in any way and does not intend to be part of any military operation, says the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, in his video message.
We are doing what we must, with our primary concern being the security of the country and its citizens, he notes.
In his message, President Christodoulides states that in light of the events, he chose to provide direct information about what took place last night.
At 12:03 midnight, a Shahed unmanned aerial vehicle crashed into the military facilities of the British Bases in Akotiri, causing minor material damage, he adds.
"From the very beginning, all the competent services of the Republic have been on alert and in full operational readiness. At the same time, I immediately convened the National Security Council to assess the situation, which remains in constant consultation," he adds.
At the same time, he is in constant contact with all European leaders and leaders of other states regarding developments, says President Christodoulides.
"We are in a region of particular geopolitical instability with many challenges and problems, which is going through an unprecedented crisis," he says, noting that "our homeland does not participate in any way and does not intend to be part of any military operation."
"We remain committed to the humanitarian role, which we have served throughout this time, always as part of the solution and not the problem, and we will continue to operate with the same responsibility," he adds.

Residents abandoned their homes – “An explosion was heard and then planes took off from the British Bases”
The British Bases of Akrotiri were put on full alert after midnight, following an explosion on the airstrip, which appears to have been caused by the fall of a military drone. Residents of the Akrotiri municipal district abandoned their homes, with some spending the night at the Limassol Central Hospital, following instructions from the President of the Republic, Kourion Mayor Pantelis Georgiou told CNA.
The incident appears to be confirmed through emails from the BB, sent to staff members and which have been made public. Specifically, the first calls on staff members and their families to remain in their homes, due to a security threat and to take cover under furniture, away from windows. The second message reportedly refers to a drone strike on the Akrotiri Base airstrip and minor material damage, without injuries.
A resident of the area told CNA that an explosion was heard and then aircraft took off from the British Bases, while the Base Police proceeded to cut off the roads leading to Akrotiri.
CNA contacted the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, who went to the municipal apartment and informed residents about the availability of the Limassol KEN, in case they wished to abandon their homes.
As he said, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, was informed from the very beginning, and gave the relevant instructions, while a large number of residents abandoned Akrotiri.
It is noted that British Bases did not comment on the incident, referring to the Press Office of the UK Ministry of Defense.
